A Little Splash of Colour…

I’ve never really been very good at living in a beige world.

I’ve always been drawn to colour. Not just the obvious colours, but the ones that make you stop for a moment. The rich, muddy greens after rain. The faded pink on an old doorway. The layers of rust, stone, moss and sea that somehow find their way together without ever trying too hard.

Patterns fascinate me too.

Some are loud and joyful, others whisper so quietly you almost miss them. Nature has always been my favourite artist. Feathers, leaves, peeling bark, cracked paint, wildflowers growing wherever they please… there’s inspiration absolutely everywhere if you slow down long enough to notice it.

Painting has become my way of collecting those moments.

Every piece I create begins with instinct rather than a plan. I don’t usually know exactly where a painting is going when I start. I simply follow the colour, add another layer, make a mess, step back, change my mind, and somehow, eventually, it tells me when it’s finished.

I quite like working that way. Life rarely gives us neat little plans either.

One of the things I love most is seeing how an original painting can continue its journey. A canvas might become wallpaper, fabric or a cushion, carrying all those wonderful layers and textures into someone’s home. It still feels like art; it’s simply found another way to be enjoyed.

This little corner of the website is where I’ll share some of that journey. Sometimes it’ll be about a new painting.

Sometimes it’ll be something that caught my eye on a woodland walk, or an unexpected colour combination that made me smile. There will probably be the odd bit of creative chaos too, because that’s usually where the best ideas appear.

I don’t pretend to know all the rules of art, and if I’m honest, I’ve never been that interested in following them anyway.

I simply love creating.

If something I make encourages someone else to be a little braver with colour, to notice beauty in the ordinary, or to fill their home with something that makes them smile every single day, then I think that’s rather wonderful.
